INSTRUCTIONS FOR DIGITAL "YIELD SYSTEM"

Ohaus CT Series Digital Yield Scale
J. A. King Model 3090AC/SASD-688 Sample Cutter
J. A. King Linear Yardage Yield Calculators

A. SETUP INSTRUCTIONS - OHAUS CT SERIES
NOTE: See Ohaus booklet "CT Series" Electronic Balance, "Directions for Use and Maintenance" for more detailed information.
  1. Carefully unpack the balance and remove the shipping bracket from the load cell. See the Ohaus manual for detailed instructions.
  2. Place the balance on a flat level surface and carefully install the weighing platform. Do not install the hook on the bottom of the scale.
  3. Plug the AC power adapter cable into the receptacle on the side panel and plug the adapter into a suitable power outlet (usually 120 Volt, 60 Hz -- see ratings on the adapter housing). For battery operation, see Ohaus instruction booklet.
  4. Depress the ON switch to activate the balance. The display will first give a rapid digit check and then should show "0.0 g". If the symbol to the right side is not "g", it will be necessary to press and release the UNITS switch to cycle to the next mode unit until "g" appears. (Ohaus CT Series balances are designed for grams (g), ounces Avoirdupois (oz), ounces Troy (oz), pennyweight (dwt), and pounds (lb), (·) custom unit, g/M2 .
  5. Check the calibration of the balance with the calibration weight supplied with the balance. With no weight on the weighing platform, the display should show "0.0 g". If other numbers are displayed, depress the TARE switch to re-zero the balance. Place the 200g weight on the platform and the display should show "200.0 g". If the calibration is incorrect, see the Ohaus booklet for calibration instructions.

B. YIELD DETERMINATION (OUNCES PER SQUARE YARD)

Simply place eight (8) fabric sample discs from the King 3090AC (w/PTB-473-9 Blade)/SASD-688 (w/PTB-1187 Blade) Sample Cutter on the balance platform and read the display for the yield in oz/yd2, yd or g/m2. (The mode symbol must be "g" for correct yield determinations) in oz/yd2. (The mode symbol must be "·" for correct yield determination) in g/m2 for some models.)

NOTE: See separate instructions for cutting fabric samples with King Model 3090AC/SASD-688 Sample Cutter.

C. LINEAR YIELD CALCULATION (OUNCES PER LINEAR YARD AND LINEAR YARDS PER POUND)
  1. Linear Yield (oz/yd) may be quickly calculated by using a J. A. King & Company Linear Yardage Yield Calculator. Set the yield (oz/sq yd), obtained from Section B above, at the arrow in the appropriate section of a King Yield Calculator, then read the yield (oz/linear yd) at the width (inches) marking on the calculator.
NOTE: Two (2) calculators are available, each covering fabric widths from 36 to 120 inches. Calculator number 714-365A (green) is used for lower yield range (0.5 to 5.0 oz/sq yd), and calculator number 714-365B (red) is used for higher yield range (5.0 to 20.0 oz/sq yd).
  2. Yield in linear yards per pound of fabric is calculated by dividing the linear yield (oz/yd), read on the King Yield Calculator in C. 1. above, into the number 16 (oz/lb).
  3. Example of Linear Yield Calculations - If yield determined in Section B is 13.6 oz/sq yd and the open fabric width (single thickness is 62 inches:
    a) Calculate linear yield (oz/yd) per C.1. above, using King Linear Yield Calculator (714-365B, red) section marked 12 to 16 (oz per sq yd), as 23.42 oz/yd.

    b) Calculate yield (yd/lb) per C.2. above.
    16
    23.42 = 0.683 yards per pound
