Cutter Overview

For over 30 years, J.A. King and Co., Inc. has produced a variety of Textile Fabric Sample Cutters. These cutters are manufactured to the highest quality standards.

The King system for obtaining fabric yield requires that 8 samples (discs) be cut using a sample cutter that will cut samples with precision. The samples (of a known diameter) are then placed on the platter of a gram scale; the yield (or fabric weight) is read directly off the scale.

Over the years we have found that some customers have a need for different size sample (than we suggest), or can not get 8 samples from the fabric they are testing, and want their yield in English and Metric units. For this reason we have continually worked to provide a Yield System to perform the yield test that a customer may need/require.

On the following pages, you will find a listing of the standard Yield Systems that are available.

Notes:

  • YS (x), Systems utilize the 3090AC2 series sample cutter
  • UYS (x), Systems utilize the Universal Sample Cutter
  • All Yield Systems are shipped with: Sample Cutter, Scale, (1) Box of 100 Cutting Pads, and Yardage Calculators

What is a Yield Test?

A Yield Test simply tells you the weight of one square unit of fabric. So in this case, yield is oz. per square yard and instead of cutting a 3'x3' piece of fabric (which is one square yard), you can cut a strip of fabric about 4" wide by full width of a roll of cloth. In other words, if you have a roll of fabric you only have to cut one strip 4" wide at the end of the roll, then cut 8 samples from that fabric and weigh those 8 samples at once on a Yield Scale to get the direct reading of oz. per square yard for that fabric (oz./sq. yd.).

Of course, the thickness of the fabric determines whether the samples should be cut one at a time, 2 at a time, 4 at a time or 8 at a time - with typical thin fabric, you can fold it 3 times and get 8 samples at once to weigh.

Product Benifits and Advantages:

  • Saves Fabric
  • Uses full width sample area from a roll
  • Economically priced
  • Accurate reading due to large number of samples
